ABOUT ME
Who is Bear?
Artist & Designer
I am a little bit obsessed by colour and shapes, and love combining them to create patterns, paintings and designs.
Jewellery Designer
I enjoy creating one off pieces in all manners of opaque and semi-opque polymer clay, silver, and resin. The focus is nearly always based on sea glass, minerals, rocks and nature.
Printmaker and Illustrator
I enjoy many forms of printmaking but I love the calming nature of carving a lino.
MY INSPIRATION
A glimpse into my world
I have taught Art and Design for nearly a quarter of a century, I know where does time go? I am fascinated by shape, colour, textures, patterns, arrangement and design. I am always trying to do something new, trying out techniques and working methods. The passage of time interests me, how things change, the patina of objects, natural wear and tear. I collect objects that have already had one life and I like them to surround me and I enjoy capturing the state they are in now currently after their owner has either discarded them or passed away. I will often paint the object as recognition of its life, use and wear and portrait of the time spent with its owner.
I am quite ecclectic and would like to say that I love one period of time in its styling but this is something I could never commit to. If its beautifully made then I think it is timeless and will stand out being such whether Arts and Crafts, Brutalist or Mid-Century Modern.
